Lake Kuti

Located about 6 km southeast of Opuzen, Lake Kuti is one of the hidden natural treasures of the Neretva Delta. Surrounded by reeds, wetlands and traditional villages, this peaceful freshwater lake offers a completely different landscape from the main river channels.

Covering an area of approximately 1.3 km², Lake Kuti is connected to the Neretva River through the Crna Rijeka and Mislina channels. Although it is a freshwater lake fed by natural springs, it is also influenced by the tides of the Adriatic Sea, making it a fascinating example of the unique hydrology of the Neretva Delta. During periods of low water, a small island even appears in the middle of the lake. (Hrvatska enciklopedija) [1]

The lake is an important habitat for numerous bird species, fish and aquatic plants. Its quiet waters and surrounding marshes make it an excellent destination for birdwatching, wildlife photography, kayaking and relaxing boat trips.

Unlike the more visited parts of the delta, Lake Kuti remains largely untouched by mass tourism. Visitors can experience the authentic atmosphere of the Neretva wetlands, where traditional fishing and agriculture still shape everyday life.

Nearby villages such as Badžula, Podgradina, Opuzen and Metković provide convenient starting points for exploring the area. The lake can easily be combined with visits to the Neretva River channels, the archaeological site of Narona in Vid, or the famous mandarin orchards that have made the region well known throughout Croatia.

For travellers seeking peace, nature and authentic landscapes, Lake Kuti is one of the finest hidden gems of the lower Neretva Valley. (Hrvatska enciklopedija) [1]
