Desne is a small rural village in the Neretva Delta region of southern Croatia, located near Kula Norinska and the lower course of the Neretva River. It lies in a distinctive landscape of wetlands, canals, lakes, and fertile agricultural fields formed by centuries of river sedimentation.
The village is closely connected to the traditional way of life in the Neretva Delta, where water management and agriculture are deeply intertwined. The surrounding canals and irrigation systems have shaped the land into productive orchards and fields, especially known for mandarin cultivation.
Desne is also near one of the most important wetland systems in the region, including the Baćina Lakes and delta marshes that support a wide variety of bird species and aquatic life. This makes the area attractive for nature observation, cycling, and quiet rural tourism.
Although small and sparsely populated, Desne reflects the characteristic balance of human settlement and natural wetland environment that defines the Neretva Delta landscape.
