Blace is a small coastal village located at the northern edge of the Neretva Delta, where the river system approaches the Adriatic Sea. It lies in a unique transitional zone between freshwater wetlands, sandbanks, and the open sea, creating a distinctive landscape shaped by both river and marine processes.
The area around Blace is characterized by shallow waters, sandy and muddy deposits, reed beds, and channels that are constantly reshaped by the Neretva’s sediment flow. This dynamic environment has created a rich ecological habitat that supports fish, birds, and diverse wetland vegetation.
Because of its open shoreline and steady winds, Blace and the surrounding delta area are also used for recreational activities such as swimming, kitesurfing, boating, and nature exploration. The landscape changes seasonally, especially during periods of high river discharge, when freshwater and seawater mix in complex patterns.
Blace represents one of the most sensitive and dynamic parts of the Neretva system — a meeting point of river, delta, and Adriatic Sea, where natural processes are still strongly visible in the landscape.
